
India has abstained from voting during a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to condemn the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine. Russia has voted against the new proposal, saying it was politically motivated and based on lies.
Along with Russia, China has also voted against the proposal.
Canada and Poland spoke on behalf of Ukraine at a meeting of the 35-nation IAEA. Twenty-six countries voted in favor of Ukraine, while India, Pakistan, South Africa, Senegal and Vietnam, Mexico, and Burundi abstained.
Russia was called in to ” stop the ongoing attacks on all Ukrainian nuclear facilities, including Chernobyl .”
Russia and India have a long history of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. India’s only foreign-funded nuclear power plant was built with the help of Russia’s nuclear agency Rosatom.
India has also been taking the initiative to build a nuclear facility in Bangladesh with Russian assistance.
