Google is going to remove Lite mode for mobile. Google has announced that it will remove the Lite mode on Android phones, saying the feature is no longer needed as data prices have dropped.
The feature, which was a data saver in Google Chrome before 2014, was rebranded in Lite mode in 2019. This feature is very useful for those who have slow internet or limited data connection.
After enabling Lite mode on Android smartphones, it used to send traffic from Google’s own servers before downloading to the device.
This simplifies slow-loading pages to reach the user’s device with fewer data. With the loss of mobile data, Google has decided to remove the light mode from Chrome, saying that the light mode is no longer required.
“As the price of cellular data plans has been declining for some years now, we plan to remove Lite mode,” said a Google spokesperson.
