Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the situation in Ukraine on Thursday. “During the telephone conversation initiated by the French side, Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron exchanged serious and clear views on the situation in Ukraine,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
On that occasion, Putin explained in detail the reasons and circumstances for his decision to launch a special military operation. The two sides also agreed to stay in close touch. A number of explosions were heard as the Russian special forces entered the second day of a special operation in the Ukrainian capital, local media reported on Friday.
Russia claims to have ordered a special military operation to “protect” the people of the Donbas region after Putin on Monday recognized the separate Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states. Many countries, including Britain, the United States, Canada, and the European Union, have condemned Russia’s military action and imposed sanctions against Russia.
